Saif al-Islam Gaddafi is the second son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. He was born on June 25, 1972, in Tripoli, Libya.
Saif al-Islam was educated in Libya and also in the UK, where he received a degree in engineering from the LSE (London School of Economics). He then went on to earn a PhD in governance from the same institution.
During his father's regime, Saif al-Islam was seen as a reformer and played a key role in modernizing Libya's economy. He was also involved in various humanitarian projects, including the building of schools and hospitals.
In 2011, when a popular uprising against his father's government broke out, Saif al-Islam publicly spoke out against the rebels and vowed to fight until the end. Despite this, he was eventually captured by rebel forces in November 2011, and he has been in detention since then.
In 2015, Saif al-Islam was sentenced to death by a Libyan court for crimes related to the 2011 uprising. However, his current whereabouts and status remain unclear, as he was rumored to have been released in June 2016.
In recent years, there have been conflicting reports about Saif al-Islam's role in Libyan politics, with some suggesting that he may be seeking a return to the political scene. Nevertheless, his future remains uncertain, and it remains to be seen what role he will play in the future of Libya.
